Description
The Calhoun Mansion in Charleston, South Carolina was built 11 years after the Civil War in 1876 by the wealthy merchant and banker George Walton William. The mansion is 25,000 square feet. This Victorian home is considered one of the most important structures of the Victorian style in the eastern United States. Used as and officers' quarters during WWI the house was later turned into a hotel called the Calhoun Mansion. In recent years the house has been featured in many travel programs on television and the location was used for the filming of the television miniseries North and South as well as the film Scarlet.
