Great shot Kathy ! I have never seen this down here in Florida - and we have MANY gators - but I have seen GBH and Tri-color herons snatch them out of mid air and eat them ! Maybe one day I will catch it on my camera....+V

Kathy Baccari replied:

Thanks so much Larry for your kind comment and vote. It is much appreciated. Hope you catch one of these. I see it quite often and it's a riot. Thanks again. :)

I was there 3 days in a row and did not a single Alligator. Although I was a little disappointed , I left there with alot of very nice Bird shots of Herons , Ibis , and Egrets. I do not know when I will get there again , but can't wait until next time. I have been to Brookgreen Gardens too , love the Black Crown Night Heron exhibit there.

Kathy Baccari replied:

Oh my goodness Ken. I do hope you eventually get to see some. Wildlife can be like that. One day feast and the next famine. Glad you've made it to Brookgreen Gardens. It's like a 2nd home to me. I love going there to shoot frogs and insects and of course flowers. You can find alligators in a number of the ponds around the properties. Glad you had a chance to see it. :)

Kathy , Great shot , I see you are from Myrtle Beach. Where was that photo taken? I have vacationed twice there and really loved Huntington Beach State Park. I was hoping to see Alligators there , but did not. Ken

Kathy Baccari replied:

Thanks so much Ken. I really appreciate it. Yes I'm at the very southern tip of Myrtle Beach about 15 minutes from Huntington Beach State Park. This particular alligator I photographed right across the street from Huntington at Brookgreen Gardens. I must say it is hard to imagine a day (in spring, summer or fall) without alligators showing up everywhere at Huntington. The count is well over a 100 now. They spend most of their time in the brackish water ponds and at the swamp at the south end of Huntington. I do hope you have better luck next time. One day at 7:00 am their were at least 50 adults in the pond at the causeway catching and eating blue crabs. It made for some great shots. Thanks again for the wonderful comment. :)

This is an incredible Alligator image Kathy, such nice timing to get the butterfly on his nose. :-) It looks like he is really eye balling that butterfly too. :-) F&V
